Many people are sceptical about cellulite treatments and whether they really work.  Now there's a way to really find out whether they do or not. 

In general, it is only possible in very advanced stages of cellulite development, to manually detect drops in the temperature of the skin.  Cold areas are the result of insufficient blood circulation at the microcirculatory level and are characteriostic signs of cellulite. 

Individual nodules, or masses of nodules that have accumulated into clusters and are painful when subjected to pressure, commonly known as "orange peel", can be detected with in-depth palpitation and with retraction of the skin surface.

In less advanced stages, it is particularly difficult to evaluate temperature differences by touch alone, or see cellulite and therefore many people may not be treated in its very early stages, a time when if detected, it can be reversed, or preventative measures can be taken to stop it worsening.

The basis of the IPS Thermograpic Plates technology is Encapsulated Liquid Crystal plates which change colour in line with temperature.  The plates essentially take the guesswork out of detection and analysis of cellulite.  They have the capacity to evaluate the smallest temperature differences to localise and classify cellulite formation and help determine more targeted treatment.

Background

The first application of contact thermography was in the medical field around the '70's for the mass screening of breast pathologies.  Over time it has developed and been used predominantly in the medical field for vascular, muscular, neural and skeletal symptoms.  Recently the Italian manufacturers discovered its benefits in the detection and classification of cellulite and patented the system.

This system is based on scientific studies supported by biopsies of the tissues concerned and was developed in partnership with top experts in the skin and beauty sectors.

How it Works

High Performance Contact Thermography provides a thermal map like an instant "photograph" for areas in question such as thighs, buttocks, stomach etc. 

There are essentially three main types of cellulite:

1.  Oedema

The initial stage of cellulite is distinguished by the formation of Oedema (retention of liquid in tissues) as revealed by thermographic images showing large patchy areas.  There is an alteration of circulation predominantly at the microcirulatory level which produces an image with hyperthermic spots of various shapes with blurred borders surrounded by cooler rings.  The skins surface is slightly rough.  Through palpitation, a moderate increase in doughiness and decrease in elasticity can be detected.

2.  Micronodules

The stage that follows Oedema is characterised by the formation of Micronodules (a number of adipose cells joined together). The thermographic appearance is typified by images with numerous, even small, hyperthermic spots (leopard spots) with sharply defined edges, irregularly scattered over a generally cold area.  Skin tone and elasticity is reduced, verging on flaccidity.

3.  Macronodules

When several micronodules combine together, they give rise to a macronodule which is perceivable to the touch and painful when pressed.  This stage of cellulite is reflected in thermographic plates by various shapes and sizes, brown or black, which indicate considerable alteration of the microcirculatory flow, with venous stasis.

The System

The system consists of three thermographic plates, a poster indicating 12 different stages of cellulte, to help identify and classify the cellulite, an "Ideal Thermoplate Selector" and forms to capture the results. 

The three plates are sensitive to different temperatues meaning that there is a plate for all climates.

Digital photos can be taken before and after treatments as a record of progress.  Consultations are faster and converting people to customers is easier. 

The Process

The "ITS" is positioned on the areas to be examined first, and in just seconds it will identify which of the three plates should be used to obtain the best thermographic results.

Each plate includes a circumference measurement strip.  Once the correct plate is selected, it is wrapped around the area to be analysed and secured in place. Within seconds the plates will show the level and grade of celulite and determine where it can be improved, or whether treatment should be preventative.
